History
The beautiful stone building, which retains many original features, dates back to the 17th century and is believed to have once been three stone cottages. Traces of these origins can be seen in the two front entrances and the indication of a third, as well as the two date stones, 1675 and 1683, on the front wall. On one side of the pub the outline of a roof indicates where the old blacksmith’s forge once stood. It is thought that the building was extended in the 19th century and although it is not certain at what date it became a pub, it is known that the inn was named after the wife of Charles II, Catherine de Braganza.
